Re: THAT FRIDAY FEELING!
Hi Dermot The Mountboard levels are widely used far beyond just Guild members. We are in the transition period for the change from the old mountboard standards, to the new ones, with full compliance due from 1st January 2024. So the numbered Levels are being used for all boards manufactured by compa...

Thanks for Forum owner/admin John, we now have the ability to rotate photos loaded to posts. When you attach a photo you will now see a rotation symbol next to the image ID on screen. If you forget to check, then you can go back in and edit your post for a short period after it appears. Beyon...

Thank you, we frame lots of things every week, but textiles are my favourite thing to work on and something I specialise in. To answer your questions. I call it Level 1 because that's what it is. The levels now mean that they can be used by their normal colloquial name in each region. What we call M...

This is a sampler from 1890, stitched by a member of our customer’s family. It was still in its original Oxford frame, with its thin planking backing which had split into two pieces, original glass and so on. Customer quite understandably wanted to retain the frame but the “internals” needed an upda...

Re: Plaque engraving
Text on paper is an option, but for many people they prefer the look of an engraved plaque. Neither is wrong or right. Just personal preference.

We had to do a repair job recently - visiting a customer's home to re-tension a canvas bought from a large gallery up country. The canvas had relaxed considerably. We discovered no bracing bars, despite it being around 5ft square, so that strainer moulding they'd used had bowed in on each side. They...

Re: The Story of a Picture Frame
Absolutely fascinating to see the process. Particularly love the spray gun  having watched Alec meticulously cleaning everything down after doing paint finishes - might just have to invest in a dedicated gesso one that he can leave to get crusty :D We are very lucky to have a bespoke staircase...

We’ve tried various places over the years with varying results, but switched to Mainline quite some time ago. Always superb service and on a Morso sharpening machine. Picked up and delivered back without problem and easy to book online or by phone. https://www.mainlinemouldings.com/index.php?Departm...

We live in a seaside town with a fantastic tidal estuary. The power of the water as it funnels through a fairly narrow channel to fill the much wider space behind, is phenomenal. We visited Brittany last summer and the tidal barrage across The Rance river. near St Malo. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wi...

PLEASE READ: FOR CRITIQUE & DISCUSSION
For those of us who work with colleagues, it is easy to get very open and honest feedback and critique of the work we produce. We can problem solve, try new things and see if they work. The "have you tried?" or "what about doing this?" kind of moment. But for so many Forum member...

Hi Marty That's quite some job! I would be looking to find a Textile Conservator to work with on this one with the customer. You can search ICON's website register here -> https://www.conservationregister.com/ or if there is no-one close enough to you, the other thing to do is contact your nearest m...
